Khalid takes an Exco off DAP

Posted:11:39 Mar-18-2008 Filed under: DAP (行动党), Keadilan, Announcements, Selangor

Up until the weekend, PKR Selangor has promised the DAP four Exco posts.

Now Khalid say DAP will only get three spots, Pas 2-3 and PKR 4-5.

Furthermore the MB will decide if he wants a deputy MB.

If he doesn’t, DAP’s nomination of Teresa Kok is gonna be a waste of time.

I have a feeling Khalid and PKR are trying to grab everything to expand the party’s influence.

Politics of patronage is it, Khalid?

Gerakan Floored On Last Question

Posted:21:17 Mar-17-2008 Filed under: Announcements

by Stephan Tan, a former journalist who now practises law in Penang.

(Sin Chew Daily): The Opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) is now enjoying the electoral euphoria that the Gerakan experienced on May 10, 1969, but the latter was summarily consigned to political oblivion after a period of slightly less than 39 years.

A succinct difference between the respective Gerakan and DAP victories of 1969 and 2008 may be this: The Gerakan won on a positive vote while the DAP won on a negative vote. To elaborate, the vote for the Gerakan was a vote for the then Dr (now Tun) Lim Chong Eu to be the next Chief Minister. The vote for the DAP was a vote against Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon for what he himself termed as his "intangible" successes.

The 2008 decision was never a vote for the colourful Lim Guan Eng as the successor to the colourless Tsu Koon. Lim, an accountant trained in Australia’s prestigious Monash University, showed his formidable character when he gamely took the fall, was imprisoned for 18 months on a legal technicality for championing the cause of a Malay girl who was allegedly raped by a senior politician in Malacca, and was consequently denied electoral participation for the next five years according to Malaysian law after being declared guilty. ”Continued”

No Cabinet post for Curry Jamaludin

The Malaysian Insider

Khairy Jamaludin’s political ambitions’ could hit rock bottom after the new Malaysian Cabinet is named next week.

The Malaysian Insider has been told that the deputy Umno Youth chief will not be offered any position in government, not even that of a parliamentary secretary.

This will be one of the few times in Malaysian political history that a senior leader of the youth wing has not been rewarded with a position following a general election. It is also the clearest sign that Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is listening to what the ground is saying about his son-in-law. Khairy has been a polarising factor in Umno since his rise up the political ladder. ”Continued”

Analysis by Yong Kai Ping and Wong Teck Chi, malaysiakini, Feb 12.

The Chinese New Year celebration in Penang was heavily peppered with the election fever as Barisan Nasional (BN) and opposition top guns appeared at various open houses.

The northen state is expected to witness major fireworks in the coming general election, which is speculated to be held next month.

With observers predicting a swing in Chinese and Indian votes, opposition parties DAP and PKR are mounting an united challenge.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is rumoured to contest in Penang, attended an open house organised by local Chinese community umbrella group Penang Chinese Town Hall.
