Teresa, 5 roast pigs and a controversy

Posted:19:39 Mar-20-2008 Filed under: DAP (行动党), WTF?, Controversy

 UPDATED 21/03

I am absolutely disgusted at the way some readers of Teresa Kok’s blog reacted when she posted a piece originally titled "5 roast pigs to celebrate election victory".

In that piece she yakked about doing her thank-you rounds at the Salak South wet market. She included a photo of Team Seputeh in the presence of five very yummy looking roast pigs. Only parts of the pigs were visible as the main focus of the photo was on Team Seputeh.

The media must have been stalking her blog as she was hounded by reporters very late last night asking for her comments.

Some holier-than-thou type readers started to pepper her blog with comments such as it was inappropriate la, offensive la, whatever la.

The said photo was later removed and the title of the post changed, not because it was an admission of guilt, but to put a stop to possibility Umno racially exploiting the issue. It is understood Teresa did not authorised the removal of the photo and it was done so by a junior staff. The said photo is back where it belonged but has been cropped.

It is Chinese tradition to have roast pork and booze for celebration and it’s Teresa’s right to publish photos of her celebration without having to be told her celebration is haram.

It is alarming when some non-Muslims try to pander to others and take their actions as gestures of accepting each other.

They are just aknowledging their second and third class citizenship by being oversensitive to a innocent heading and photo.

The following was the original so-called offensive photo. Are you offended?

5 roast pigs

Two years ago Teresa published this photo about the DAP visiting the pig farmers in Malacca. Did anyone complain?

Uprooting forest to build graveyard

Posted:14:40 May-25-2007 Filed under: Controversy

By Clarence Fernandez, Reuters, May 25.

Geckos splash in a green pool and chattering, beady-eyed monkeys swing through the trees in one of Malaysia’s oldest patches of forest as bulldozers crunch jungle nearby to build a cemetery for Muslims.

A clash is shaping between the demands of environmental protection and devotion to religion in mainly Muslim Malaysia as protesters prepare for a last-ditch bid to persuade authorities to spare a rare wildlife haven on the edge of the capital.

“Why dig up a valuable tree to bury a corpse?” asked Noor Lelawati Khalid, who is preparing to take on developers and town planners in a battle to preserve the forest on whose fringes she has lived with her husband and five sons for the last four years.

Local officials say the cemetery will occupy just a small part of the forest, but residents fear the move is only the first step in a campaign to cut down trees, level the hill on which they stand, and build hundreds of homes on the razed ground.

Forestry officials say more than half of Malaysia is swathed in permanent forest reserves, but environmentalists say fears are growing that rampant development and illegal logging are putting the country’s forest cover at risk. ”Continued”

Anwar comeback hits hurdles

Posted:14:35 May-25-2007 Filed under: Anwar Ibrahim, Controversy

ABC Radio Australia

Former Malaysian deputy prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has hit another hurdle on his path to making a political comeback.

Radio Australia’s Connect Asia program reports that Anwar Ibrahim’s long road back to political office has been ridden with obstacles but rarely have they come from within his own ranks.

Members of his own Keadilan party, however, are accusing Mr Anwar of interfering in the nominations for the party’s elections this weekend.

Prominent Indian leader, Nallakaruppan, is threatening to quit after Mr Anwar refused to support his nomination as vice president.

There are also reports that Mr Anwar’s eldest daughter, Nurul Issah, dropped out of the race on her father’s demand. ”Continued”

Height of bullshit

Posted:09:39 Apr-30-2007 Filed under: Islam, Controversy

At a makan-ceramah in Sandakan last night, Lim Kit Siang said among the two most speculated reasons on why Chong Kat Kiat quit was because of “differences with the CM over the former’s plan to build the world’s tallest Mazu (Goddess of the Sea) statue in Kudat…

Land as well as donations exceeding RM5 million have been pledged, but apparently construction has been frozen.

Sources recently told me Musa and Chang clashed over this issue as Musa and his gang object to the statue being taller than a nearby masjid.

Another my-cock-longer-than-yours bullshit?

Our Scorpene subs being built

Posted:15:44 Mar-16-2007 Filed under: Controversy

The Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Navy and the Chief of Staff of the French Navy were present at a ceremony in Cherbourg, France commemorating the joining of the fore- and aft-sections of the first Scorpene submarine being built for the Malaysian Navy.

The contract was originally signed in June 2002 between the Malaysian government, DCN and the Spanish shipbuilder, Navantia. It concerns the building of two Scorpene-class submarines, and also covers a contract for training Malaysian crews in submarine handling and operations.

Capable of operating in both brown and blue waters, the Scorpene is armed with Blackshark wire-guided torpedoes and Exocet SM 39 sub-launched, anti-surface-ship missiles. It can undertake a wide range of missions: dissuasion, superiority on the high seas, naval blockades, information-gathering, landing or retrieval of Special Forces, etc. It can operate alone or in combination with air and sea forces.

Ten submarines have been sold around the world: Chile (two vessels), Malaysia (two vessels) and India (six vessels). The Scorpene is already a benchmark on the world conventional submarine market.

Donation, gold missing after temple demolition

Posted:17:45 Nov-29-2006 Filed under: Controversy

From Feb 2, 2006 to date, 69 Hindu temples have been demolished, threatened with demolition, burnt down or forced to relocate next to sewerage tanks.

The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) legal advisor P Uthayakumar made this claim in a 3-page letter to AG Abdul Gani, asking him to institute action against the Ipoh mayor and council officers involved in the demolition of the Kaliaman Alayam temple near Taman Impiana, Menglembu, Perak.

In the course of the demolition, donations amounting to around RM5,000 and some gold prayer items went walkabout, reports malaysiakini.

Adat Melayu 101

Posted:14:26 Nov-29-2006 Filed under: Umno, Controversy

When Hishammuddin decided to play around with his keris again this year at the recent Umno ragefest, I decided to not blog about it.

I decided that since other bloggers would be having a field day whacking Hishammuddin, I’d just sit back and watch the fireworks. And wait for Umno Youth’s cha cha steps. After all, Hishammuddin’s noble adat Melayu could have been misunderstood, right? Yeah, right.

Instead of an apology to Malaysians, Hishammuddin decided to give us a lesson in Adat Melayu 101 instead. ”Continued”
