While M’sia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry

Posted:09:55 Nov-15-2006 Filed under: General

by Michael Backman, The Age, November 15, 2006

MALAYSIA’S been at it again, arguing about what proportion of the economy each of its two main races — the Malays and the Chinese — owns. It’s an argument that’s been running for 40 years. That wealth and race are not synonymous is important for national cohesion, but really it’s time Malaysia grew up.

It’s a tough world out there and there can be little sympathy for a country that prefers to argue about how to divide wealth rather than get on with the job of creating it.

The long-held aim is for 30 per cent of corporate equity to be in Malay hands, but the figure that the Government uses to justify handing over huge swathes of public companies to Malays but not to other races is absurd. It bases its figure on equity valued, not at market value, but at par value. ”Continued”

You have two choices…

Posted:17:20 Jun-19-2006 Filed under: General

I received the following and it’s pretty inspirational and I would like to share it with you.

Jerry is the manager of a restaurant. He is always in a good mood.

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!”

Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when he changed jobs, so they could follow him around from restaurant to restaurant.

Why?Because Jerry was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was always there, telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation. ”Continued”

Is this your phone number?

Posted:19:03 Mar-6-2006 Filed under: General

This is pretty cool.

  1. Key in the first 3 digits of your phone number (exclude area code) into a calculator

  2. Multiply by 80

  3. Add 1

  4. Multiply by 250

  5. Add the last four digits of your phone number

  6. Add the last four digits of your phone number again

  7. Subtract 250

  8. Divide by 2

Is this your phone number?

PAS’ publicity stunt a flop

Posted:11:08 Feb-24-2006 Filed under: General, PAS, Media

The mullah wannabes from Pas Youth today failed in its tasteless attempt go gain publicity with a protest outside the New Straits Times office at Jalan Riong over the paper’s publication of a Non Sequitur cartoon that some claim was offensive.

While 10,000 turned up at the Danish Embassy to protest a couple or three Fridays ago, today’s protest attracted a crowd that would not even fill larger cinemas.

Led by PAS Youth head, the ultra Salahuddin Ayub and his deputy Idris Ahmad, the protesters marched from a mosque in Bangsar Baru to Jln Riong after prayers.

Carrying placards like “Don’t Insult Our Prophet” and “NST Agen Singapura?”, the crowd chanted Islamic verses and demanded the resignation of top NSP editors.

The 30-minute demo was peaceful despite rumours that the protesters were planning to storm Balai Berita.

Pas holds another anti-Dane protest

Posted:11:54 Feb-17-2006 Filed under: General, PAS

Image hosting by PhotobucketPas today led yet another protest in Kota Bharu this morning over the publication of images of Mohammad.

Pemuda Pas ultra Salahuddin Ayub said that although Malaysia chairs the OIC, it has not done enough to protest the hostile press in Denmark.

He said Pas was mad (no pun intended) with our leaders for keeping quiet while the West continues to belittle Islam.

The protest started after Nik Aziz’s weekly sermon at about 10:00hr.

The crowd called for a ban on Danish goods and Salahuddin led the crowd to burn a flag of Denmark (picture).

Third World Recycled Cabinet won’t make us developed nation

Posted:12:03 Feb-16-2006 Filed under: General, Politics

I’m still trying to come to grip with Pak Lah’s new Cabinet, one that’s supposedly been tweaked to help make Malaysia achieve developed nation status by 2020.

If this is the best team the PM can offer for such an important assignment, I think we are in serious trouble.

I’m not impressed with this Cabinet Recycle, and neither was a politician friend who commented that he was so disappointed with the cosmetic changes that it made him wanted to, for the first time ever, use the F word. ”Continued”
