Alleged victim’s name goes down the black hole

Posted:12:49 Jul-1-2008 Filed under: Law & Order, Anwar Ibrahim

In practise the name of a alleged sex crime victim is suppressed. In some cases the names of relatives are suppressed too if making public their names may identify the victim.

But in true blue Malaysia Boleh style the name of one Saiful Bukhari Azlan has become the most searched name on the internet, 896th places ahead of Curry Jamaluddin. (Eh, ah, wei I have added salt n pepper to this one)

How the hell did it reached the stage where an alleged sex crime victim’s name — before an arrest and charges laid — is now known to the world?

I think the masterminds of this one have learned a bit from the old ones.

In the original sandiwara, the alleged victims were too manly, too butch.

In the latest drama they got someone with a softer image, like abit ah kua, to be the victim.

Those Mat Rempits & seks melayu

Posted:17:57 Oct-25-2007 Filed under: Law & Order, Umno

Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang is not the sort who mucks around with irrelevant issues.

But when he starts talking about the out-of-control Mat Rempits, you better sit up and listen.

In a media conference, Lim quoted seven recent cases of Mat and Minah Rempits causing riot, bodily harm, damage and a host of other pathetic crimes that have shamed the Malay community because these kurang ajar Mat and Minah believe they are 10ft tall and bullet-proof.

Or so says what gives then their Dutch courage, a couple of bottles of larger and ice. Ice as the shit that fries your mind till next week. ”Continued”

Malaysia stops short of criminalizing marital rape

Posted:16:23 Sep-14-2007 Filed under: Social, Law & Order, Legal

The Associated Press, September 14.

Malaysia has made it an offense for a husband to beat or threaten his wife to force her into having sex, but activists said Friday it failed to make marital rape a crime.

Under amendments to the penal code, which took effect last week, a husband who is found guilty of causing his wife “hurt or fear of death” to have sex with him can now face up to five years in jail.

The change, however, stops short of making marital rape a crime because another provision — that a husband has the right to have sex with his wife — had not been removed, said Maria Chin Abdullah, executive director of the Women’s Development Collective, a non-governmental group.

“(The amendment) doesn’t really help to resolve the whole issue of marital rape. It’s like they have made an amendment, but at the same time there is a way out,” she told The Associated Press. “The law doesn’t want to deal head-on with marital rape.” ”Continued”

Failure to carry MyKad more serious than assault?

Posted:08:28 Aug-11-2007 Filed under: Law & Order, DAP (行动党)

by Ng Kee Seng, sun2surf (Fri, 10 Aug 2007)

Is failure to carry an identity card a more serious offence than causing voluntary hurt? It is, if the punishments provided for in the Penal Code (PC) are used as the yardstick.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the ridiculous state of these sections of the law should be reviewed and amended.

If your leave home and forget to take along your MyKad, and if you are unable to produce the card when asked by a policeman, you are liable to a jail term of up to three years or a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000, or both.

Beat up someone and under Section 323 of the PC of voluntarily causes hurt, the offender is only liable to imprisonment for one year or a fine of RM2,000, or both.

Lim suggested that such heavy penalties for failing to carry the MyKad should be reduced to a maximum fine of RM500 and/or one week’s jail.

He also said the police should get their priorities right in crime prevention and enforcement. ”Continued”

Deputy Minister denies assault

Posted:13:07 Jul-23-2007 Filed under: Law & Order

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denies allegation that he and several others had whacked a man for dating one of his daughters.

In a handphone text message to Weekend Mail’s query over the incident, Datuk Ahmad Zahid wrote: ‘Don’t bother with that ridiculous story… Only want to smear my name.’

He said: ‘Anyone can lodge a police report. It’s a shame that the police had to investigate my wife, children and son-in-law. But there was no case at all.

‘And he used (lawyer) Karpal Singh to raise the issue in Parliament. But I didn’t react. Now he’s using other methods, including webs, blogs and tabloids.’

The man, Amir Bazli Abdullah, 37, claimed that he suffered facial disfigurement after being beaten up badly by the minister and several men in January last year.

He said that besides a broken nose, hisforehead was ‘dented’ after being struck by a ‘hard object’ followed by a large rock. ”Continued”
